| Zone Alarm Firewall Why do I need a Firewall? The internet has often been compared to a superhighway. Like a highway, there is nothing to prevent anyone from driving on it. Your PC is like a destination on the highway. If you do not lock the doors, anyone - friend, foe or otherwise - with sufficient knowledge can attempt to go through the various "ports" on your PC to try to access information on your PC or control your PC. Or, if you install a program that has "spyware" embedded in it, the spyware program can secretly gather information about you and send it back to whoever programmed it using your internet connection.
